I’m still reeling from my husband’s announcement last week that he’s become a VEGETARIAN!!!!! He’s watched a film called Earthlings about society’s treatment of animals and it’s totally changed his perceptions and put him off meat for life… watch with caution!
I have to admit I was furious when he casually dropped it into conversation. My immediate reaction was:
“Well you can cook your own *bleeeeeeep*ing food then”
But I have since calmed down, grieved for the meat-eater that was my husband, and accepted the sandal-wearing beard sporting man he is about to become 😉
What will it mean for my approach to cooking for the family? I’m still trying to figure it out, but think I’ll try and cook more vegetarian food for all of us, but on the days I cook meat I’ll have a quorn/tofu type substitution on hand for Matthew.
I’d love to hear from any vegetarians out there with your favourite recipes or cool websites to look at for meal inspiration – especially things that kids would enjoy eating too.
Going veggie was not on my to-do list for 2011, but I’m being positive and hope it opens up a new approach to cooking for me. Eating meat is expensive and not always great for the planet either.
To be honest if I had to kill animals in order to eat meat I’d be a veggie too, but I’m able to distance myself enough from the process to not think about it too much. I try and buy most of my meat from the local Farmer’s Market, so I know where it’s come from and that it’s ethically produced.
So there we are. Feeding boys and a vegetarian firefighter!

I am a semi-vegetarian. Somethings I make that I find enjoyable include: eggplant parmesean, veggie biscuits, couscous, crockpot soups, things with beans (good for protein), and I am sure there is more but I am currently not remembering. Good Luck!

Hi,
I’m a veggie Dad cooking for a carnivorous family. At the moment we are all enjoying Spanish omlette, well I’ve finished and just taking a break! Veggie pizza, plenty of great pasta recipes that everyone enjoys, my missus often adds a bit of meat to the sauce when I’m done. There are a couple of curry dishes that go down well and a few rice ones as well. Happy to send on the recipes.

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that cooking more vegetarian meals will expand your food repertoire immensely.
I always go to vegweb.com for my recipes.
