Generally the food I make very much reflects the time of year, I’ll use ingredients that are in season in a recipe that fits the weather. However it can also depend what mood I’m in.
If I’m rushed off my feet then the food will be simple with much corner-cutting involved like these little tomato, ham and ricotto tarts.
If I’m in a sociable mood and feeding a crowd, or just want to lift everyone’s spirits then it’s this warming Beef and Dark Ale casserole that is a winner every time.
The team at Tesco Real Food want to find out what recipes fit your moods and are running a cool competition to find the absolute best of the bunch. There are some great prizes up for grabs like cameras and spa breaks and even the chance to appear in a TV show.
They’ve very kindly asked me to help with the judging, so I thought I’d give the comp a bit of a shout-out here so you can get thinking about your favourite recipes.
The categories are:
- Breakfast on the go
- Date night dinners
- Family favourites
- Heartbreak healers
- Me-time meals
- More than four
- Take-away at home
- Talk and fork
Good luck with your entries and watch this space for updates on how the competition is going…

All sounds very interesting, but I would have to agree with you. It’s not just the ingredients of the season but also the mood you are in. 🙂
