Branches of Waitrose seem to be springing up all over the place. The latest one I’ve noticed is in the well-heeled area of Jesmond in Newcastle. We were up there over Easter and I couldn’t resist a little snoop inside the gleaming store.
While I was browsing around the shelves, I picked up a recipe card for these gorgeous tea-time treats as i’m always in the market for new banana cake ideas.
It has an obscene amount of honey in it – but the result is a gloriously moist cake with a sticky almond-studded crust.
I love that it’s very thin, so it only takes half an hour to cook, unlike the hour that a denser loaf cake takes. It also means you can just have a tiny slice with a cuppa and not feel too bad about it.
You can find the recipe here on the Waitrose website, I urge you to try it… really… it’s life improving!

I’m really happy you’ve blogged this, I have the same card sat on my kitchen counter tempting me each time I catch sight of it. It looks and sounds delicious! Now that I’ve seen this I’ll be making it myself in the next few days!

it really is as good as it looks – if not nicer. It is now officially my favourite banana cake… let me know how you get on when you make it.
