You can’t have Bonfire Night without a decent warming dish of sausages to come back to after fighting your way through the crowds watching the fireworks. You will have earned it after the trauma that is trying not to lose the kids in the pitch black or shelling out for some hideously expensive neon light-up sword that malfunctions approximately four minutes after purchasing it.
So I thought I’d compile a list of my favourite Bonfire Night recipes to come home to after such delights! From casseroles to bakes and a fruity twist on Toad in the Hole – whether you’re using vegetarian sausages or pork, these easy recipes will fill your family’s bellies and cosy up the kitchen.
Veggie Sausage and Bean Slow Cooker Casserole
This is a real winner of a dinner because you can pop it into the slow cooker before you go out, then just serve it up as soon as you get in with some bread for mopping up that gloriously good gravy. No waiting, no impatient children, no whinging. And breathe.
Sausage & Sweet Potato Skillet Bake
This is beautifully sticky, and a riot of colour to brighten up a dark evening. Serve it up with crusty bread, stuff it into toasted pittas or just eat it straight out of the pan. You won’t really care once you start tucking into this little lot!
Sausage & Apple Toad in the Hole
Adding chunks of seasonal British apples to toad in the hole elevates this classic winter dish into something just a bit more spesh. If you use veggie sausages it’s even quicker to make because you don’t need to pre-cook the bangers. Bung them in just before you add the batter! If you’ve made the batter before you go out then it’s only about a 20 minute wait for this beauty to work itself up into a billowing masterpiece in the oven.
Creamy Veggie Sausage Pasta Bake
A proper comfort classic to bring a touch of hygge into your home, who can resist a creamy pasta bake?! You don’t need to slave over the hob making a cheese sauce either, it’s an all-in-one affair using creme fraiche and grated cheese. You can count on me to keep things simple, as I’m definitely not a great lover of faff when it comes to family meals.

Honey & Mustard Glazed Sausage Bake
A classic pairing of sausages, honey and mustard, pleasingly baked alongside mini new potatoes, squash and peppers. I chuffing love this recipe coz it’s got a bit of everything I fancy and is substantial enough to serve alone. But of course you can sneak some crusty bread in there if you’re feeling especially ravenous, I won’t tell.

More Bonfire Night Goodies
If you need a splash of gravy to go with your bangers, I can highly recommend my Home Made Onion Gravy that I find myself making at least once a week. It goes a treat with Toad in the Hole, roast dinners or just to perk up plain old sausages on their own. I tend to make a big batch and then freeze the leftovers to use another night, which can be a real godsend.
If you’ve got a group of mates coming over, serve them up a round of these rather splendid and boozy Spiced Apple Mojito Cocktails. They’ll warm everyone’s cockles and make a nice change from mulled wine. These were my Christmas cocktail of choice last season, but I’ll be rolling them out early doors this year!
And to finish, my Sticky Ginger Cake is the perfect Bonfire Night bake. A richly spiced and moist cake decorated with firework-like sprinkles goes a treat with a steaming mug of hot chocolate. You’re welcome.

It’s been many years since I’ve been to a public fireworks display, but I do remember that excitement tinged with properly cold fingers and toes! Love love love sausages, so these recipes are right up my street!
