I’m probably a bit slow on the uptake, but i’ve discovered a fantastic service at the Waitrose fish counter. It’s called Garnish and Go and it’s the key to a rapid fuss-free family supper.
You basically choose your fish and the lovely person behind the counter (and of course they’ll be universally lovely if they work for Waitrose) asks you what kind of flavoured butter you’d like with it, maybe you’d like some fresh herbs madam, how about a few slices of lemon?
They then put it in a special heat sealed bag which you literally just bung straight in a pre-heated oven and then out comes your delicious evening meal!
I chose some cod, lemon and herb butter with some extra slices of lemon and a scattering of fresh parsley. They don’t charge you any extra for this service – just what the fish would cost.
While the bag was cooking I boiled up some new potoatoes which I served roughed up with the juice of a lemon, a good glug of olive oil and a large pinch of sea salt for the grown ups and just a spot of pesto for the littlies.
Is it just me or is pesto the new ketchup? My brother and I wouldn’t eat anything unless it was smeared with ketchup. I’m ashamed to say even roast dinners got a squirt. With Arlo and Sam, it’s all about the green stuff. Its punchy flavours will distract them from what they’re actually eating. Brilliant!
Anyway, needless to say the pesto coated potatoes went down a treat. The fish and vegetables were shovelled down without so much as a peep.
The whole thing took 30 minutes to prepare and cook. LOVING IT!
