I laughed, I cried (well full-on blubbed actually), I made new friends, acquired my own bodyweight in freebies and ate a whole lotta cupcakes!
CyberMummy 2010 was a completely amazing experience for a newbie on the blogger block to get a real insight into this fascinating and dynamic universe.
There were great talks from industry experts on creating good content, growing your audience, SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and the all important advice on how to turn your blog into a book. There were live bloggers at all the sessions, which was great coz you couldn’t physically get to all of them so you can still see what went on.
The most compelling part of Cybermummy was the Crowdsourced Keynote, where a handful of bloggers read out the most moving and inspirational selection of their writing. The whole room was enthralled, and at times reduced to a sobbing mass as the women bravely stood up one by one and shared their experiences, inner thoughts and emotions.
Bereavement, near death experiences, difficult family relationships – it was all laid bare and I felt very honoured to be listening. Sandy Calico’s reading of her beautifully written post My Old Man was extraordinarily poignant. I never recovered and then spent the rest of the session openly bawling my eyes out.
Thanks goodness there was so much cake on offer for comforting purposes…
The naughtiest Vegan cakes in town from MsCupcake – they were soooo rich and delicious! The Banoffee ones were particularly lush.
These cakes were on the Kodak stand where people kept suddenly stampeding every time there was a camera competition tweeted… I just wasn’t quick enough!
These bite-size beauties were on the Tropicana Kids! stand – I love mini cupcakes as I find the monster sized ones can be a bit icky with all that icing.
I didn’t take that many pictures, but there are plenty of ladies who did and have kindly started posting them on a flickr photostream if you’re interested.
Not only have I lugged a whole lotta freebies home with me from the conference, I’ve also picked up a worrying affliction – i’m addicted to Twitter. It’s like crack! Everyone was at it yesterday and I’m powerless to resist. The boys think I’m too glued to my phone as it is… wait till they get back from camping – yikes!
BUT afflictions aside, it was a truly inspirational day. I feel fired up and ready to get my teeth into making a success of my blog and becoming part of this community of remarkable and talented women.
Thanks to everyone for making CyberMummy 2010 so fab – it rocked!

I bravely tried to walk to earl’s court tube with my freebie swag bags, but a few minutes later a mini cab office appeared…. I think the driver thought that buggy bag was a body bag judging by the look he gave me 😉
Pants With Names says
I had to lug the goodie bag (aka the buggy bag) back on the bus. Nearly broke my back. Thought I’d just have to turf a lot of the stuff out but actually very little went. Most of it will be used.
I didn’t get to meet you on Saturday, wish that I had! I was in the corner feeling a bit overwhelmed hunting down those chocolate cupcakes!
rhwfoodie says
There should have been a lunch table for the “feeling overwhelmed” 🙂
hope we can meet next year?!
